Kenzie, my niece, asked me if I would help build an igloo. Sounds fun- I have built igloos many times in my Dad's front yard, so why not another? But from experience at Dad's, the mid-winter snowpack in McCall doesn't provide the kind of snow you want. True to form, we could not get usable blocks from the snow in Tom's yard, so instead we built a quinzee, visible in the background here. |

Sorry, no photos of the construction process- we were too busy. Here it is, a little closer. |

And closer yet. Looks like an igloo. Works like an igloo. But not made from blocks. We ran out of time and energy, so no tunnel. |

Sugar went inside, but from her reaction, wasn't too thrilled. But she obeys commands, so sat in front for a photo. Good girl! |

Kenzie also obeys commands. |

Allie was napping, so wasn't there when the other three of us all got inside. About a two-hour effort with four people working for most of that. Not bad. |

I was telling stories and Mike asked if we had built igloos on Denali. So for Mike's benefit, here's part of a Denali snow wall around our camp. Nice, square blocks cut with a snow saw. |
