It was once again Memorial Day weekend, time for the traditional McCall season opener: Golden Lake, and then sometimes on up to Snowslide Peak. |
||
This year we parked about half a mile short of the trailhead. We left Jim's house right at 8am, and were on our feet about an hour later. We did a little trail work on the way up the hill, then hit snow much lower than I remember seeing it in the past. The snow was a little soft, as expected, but not too bad. No snowshoes needed. At the lake, it was completely frozen over, with just this small opening at the outlet. |

In the increasing heat, we plodded up to the ridgetop. |

Once you get onto the ridge, it has sort of a stair-step climb that eventually opens up to give great views. That's Beaverdam on the far right. Lots of snow up here still. |

This is looking south, back down our ridge. The camera flattens it out a lot. And below, Jim is taking a meta-photo. That's Sawtooth Peak behind and to viewer's right. |

With Jim, me, and the dogs all on the narrow summit ridge, it was a little difficult finding a comfortable place to enjoy our lunch. But we did our best. Jim Pace photo |
