It's Tuesday, so it's also my day off. After getting rejected by snow n the road to Lost Valley Reservoir, we went to Plan B. Plan B also had snow, but the GPS said Peak 5460 was only 3 miles away. Nice day for a walk.

After walking for some time, there's today's goal.

This gives a better idea of the road conditions. Bare and/or melting in the sun, firm in the shade.

After leaving Smoky Boulder Road, is was just soft-ish snow. Softer on our return.

It didn't take long to discourage following the snowy track shown above. Looking at the map, we went after this brushy ridge. Buck brush, anyone?

I found better travel OFF the ridge, surprisingly. At least we were out of the snow. And then a bit more snow right at the summit. The summit was forested, with only little peekaboo views through the branches.

On the way back with the higher vantage of a descent, we found a quick way down.

This pic of Granite Mountain was shot from the road on our return to the rig. Note the sliding snow, and you can see the lookout on the right-hand end of the ridge.
