A dawn patrol repeat of a route on Boulder Mountain.

We met at Tom's at 7, but didn't leave until we had achieved the correct caffeination. Still, it wasn't quite light when we got to the lower Shaw Twin Lake.

Our route would ascend the rib in the clearing just left of center, rising to the right.

We had to do a little splattski bushwhack and icy boulder scramble to get into the clearing. Trailhead

Then it was just good fun. Dave is slightly behind/lower because he was making pictures. Note that you can see two lakes here.

Trailhead

Some of the Class 2 is steep. With snow on it, you have to pay attention.

Trailhead

I predicted fabulous views from the ridge top.

Trailhead

Meanwhile, the sun had come up. But with the wind on the ridge, it wasn't any warmer.

That's our summit on the left.

Trailhead

The ridge is broad and bare. Makes for good views. That's Jug on the left, with Long Valley below.

Trailhead

The ridge undulates a bit. In the protected areas we were in 8-10" of powder. Abut here we stopped for hot tea and gaiters.

Trailhead

Summit.

Crusty looking bunch.

Trailhead

Summit view looking north into the heart of the Lick Creek range. We played Name That Peak for a bit, but there were just too many.

Trailhead

Another view of Jug.

And Twin Peaks on the left, which Dave and I had visited on a less-fabulous day last Tuesday.

Trailhead

Tom is a quick study, so was also playing NTP.

Trailhead

On the way back, we followed our tracks to, and then past, the point where we had gained the ridge. Here you can see the transition zone, with McCall and Payette Lake below. And Ruby.

Trailhead

Ruby scanning for squirrel safety.

Note: The trip report above with Julie (in the stats section) shows basically the same route, but done on a sunny and warm September day.
