Julie had the day off. I told her this hike was less than 6 miles. She was IN! So early in the morning, we drove out to Fisher Creek Saddle and were soon staring at Bruin Peak in the sunshine. |

We knew there was going to be a little snow, but it was still enough to make hiking a challenge. But our lakes are right over there- behind that ridge with the trees. |

But first we had to drop down into the saddle. |

A few views on our way down to the saddle. |

Saddle crossed, and now time to go up. |

Lunch Time. Keep the engine fueled for the Up. |

On top of the ridge, we encountered long sections of downfall interspersed with beautiful meadows. Soggy, but beautiful. | ![]() |
And finally, there's our lakes. This is the lower of the French Creek lakes. |
![]() |
And the higher one. The original plan had been to go down to the lakes, but the clock and the engine were against that, at least today. |

Group shot overlooking the lake. Then...you guessed correct again... time to go down to the saddle and climb back up the other side. |

But first we had to re-cross the meadows. Here's a sample of the awesome views. The little pyramid on the left background is Fitsum Benchmark. The broad ridge in the background is McCabe Peak. And the little pointy thing in front of McCabe is Humdinger. |

Here Julie is almost down to the saddle. |
![]() |
And then she's on her way back up the other side. |
![]() |
After you grind your way back up the ridge on the south side of the saddle, it's time to do the undulating traverse across the multiple drainages and multitudinous downed trees. | ![]() |
And did I forget to mention the now-slurpy snow? | ![]() |
This shot has all three. | ![]() |
An occasional rest break was in order. With things to look at! | ![]() |
Dave and Ruby share wardrobe tips. And a log. |
