Another year where you can't quite get to the Golden Lake trailhead.
Well, we probably could have. But we chose not to press our luck. On our return, someone was stuck in the snow there.

Trailhead

Once above the road, the hillside is usually bare for the first thousand feet or so of gain.

The creek was raging.

Trailhead

We stopped for a short break and some photographs.

Trailhead

Golden Lake, as usual, was pretty much totally frozen over.

We reminisced about Rich fishing off the little rock on the right last fall (sorry, no TR of that hike).

Trailhead

Then it was up to the summit ridge with some urgency, because the wind was blowing and the clouds were moving in.

Trailhead

Looking back the other way.

Again reminiscing. We climbed the peak on the left, Peak 8361, last summer.

Trailhead

Our summit today with Sawtooth Peak immediately behind.

Trailhead

More mountains to the north.

You can see Lick Creek Road at the bottom of the valley. Still snowed in, probably for a few more weeks.

Trailhead

Peak 8270 was showing off its cornices.

More mountains to the south. Trailhead
It seemed like we might be racing the precipitation back to the truck. Ruby took the lead (per usual). Trailhead

"Mt. Horrendous"

Just one of the many peaks at which to stare.

Trailhead

The snow was perfect for fast plunge-stepping, so we were having lunch above Golden in about 20 minutes.

And then we were on dry ground. The clouds eased up and the sun came out. Spring!

Trailhead

With slightly damp ground, the descent wasn't as slippery as Dave remembered it. And with the sun out again, we eased up and admired the views. The four horsemen. Slick Rock on the far left.

The road and our truck (and cold beers!) are somewhere down there in the trees.
