The season here in McCall is winding down. We have already had trips where we walked in snow (several times). And today, we had to go early so that Dave could be home at noon to open his house for the end-of -season housecleaner. So here we are in early-morning light looking north up Lake Fork Creek having started the outing in the dark with headlamps.

If you know your topography, Golden Lake is in the hidden basin across the canyon.

Now, closer to the saddle to Crystal, some fall colors and Beaverdam. Trailhead

At the saddle to Crystal, you can see Gunsight Notch above Middle Fork Lake.

And the stubby pinnacle above Crystal.

When we got to the lake, Dave had already caught three fish by the time I fed Ruby. So with a huge advantage in the Fish Competition, he got out the camera while I tried to put up some sort of statistic (Dave 3, John 0). Ruby supervises.

Art already had a fire going, so opted to do some sightseeing.

I wasn't getting far. I could see fish following my lure. And they were nibbling. But score was still 0.

Dave gifted me his favorite lure. More casts. Still no luck. The clock was ticking. Dave declared, "One more cast and we gotta go."

I have always done well under pressure. Last cast? Fish on!

Yes. And a beauty.

Still, only 1 to 3. Happy loser.

When we got back to the saddle, the sun was (more) up.

And yes, we got to Dave's before his housekeeper.

This has been a wonderful year. Sad to see Dave go, but we are already talking about cool things to try next year.
