New lakes in a favorite basin.

I have wanted to explore this area for a few years now. After Dave drove up the pretty horrible road, we parked at the trailhead, crossed the creek, and almost immediately turned left through a curtain of new growth. Voila! A 'rehabbed' road to hike on.

Trailhead

Only partly rehabbed. Art was determined to fix that.

At the end of the road, as shown on the map, it turned into good mountain scenery.

That thing needs a band-aid.

This pretty lake has no name.

Then we were off for Horton Lake. By my standards, this is easy bushwhacking.

Trailhead

Again, very pretty. Gorgeousness. But this one has no name, either.

Horton Lake.

But not much fishin' action. We could see some big ones, but they weren't interested in what we were offering.

But in this wet year, much of the area near the lake was pretty darn soggy, like this fire ring. Trailhead

Art thought he had a better idea over on the other side of the lake.

He did, but they still weren't biting.

Looking back on a camp site by Horton.

So then we were off to Ellis Lake. I loved the little inlets and interesting shoreline. But Ellis didn't seem to have any fish.

There are two peaks here. On the left, Blacktip Mountain. On the right, Lower Blacktip Mountain.

Trailhead
No fish, but we did scare up an elk. Trailhead
So then we were on to our loop. If you look close, you can see the unnamed lake on the right side here. Trailhead

Lake? More like a frog pond.

In another quarter mile we were able to close our lollipop. From there, it was an easy cruise back to the cold beer in the truck.

Four lakes plus a pond. One great day.
