This was a multi-sport day with mountain biking, hiking, and fishing. In other words, a perfect day in the Idaho mountains. On the bike, I was too busy to take pictures. To see the cycling part, see Dave's blog, linked below. So here we are as we start the hike. It's only 1 mile to the lake. But it's over a 1600' ridge. |

This ridge. Up through the Rapid Fire burn. What Tim referred to as "this F'in mountain". |

Pretty good view from the top of the ridge. That's Majers Peak. |

As we headed down the other side toward the lake, Ruby reinforced her friendships. |

And then we were at the lake. |

Looking the other direction. There's something going on here that is sorta hard to see. But we were entranced. |

If you click for the bigger version here, you might be able to figure it out. Those splashes are ducks going underwater. Just to their right, there is a blur of sorts. |
![]() |
There's the blur, moments later. This scene lasted several minutes, and I was too stupefied to take a video. Apologies. But as Rich said, that little drama made all the work to get back here entirely worthwhile. |

And then, of course, were the fish. | ![]() |
Another one. |

And still another. Dave won, for sure. About this time I had a fish get even with me when it threw the hook just as I was getting ready to pick it up. The line was under tension, so when the hook released it flew. And completely embedded itself in my finger. It took Dave's pliers to jerk it back out. Dave opted not to watch. |

There's fishing, and there's catching. Mostly we enjoyed the fishing. | ![]() |
And the scenery. | ![]() |
But Dave just kept catching. | ![]() |
