Dave, Tom, and I all knew already the beauty of Lake Thirtythree. But Susan had to take it on faith that the struggle through the brush would be worth it. But she gasped when she saw Beaverdam shining in the sun behind her. Oooh- this is going to be good. |

We worked up the valley, then pushed through the brush on the steep hillside. Finally, things were opening up as we neared the head of the cirque. |

And then there it was. Down there. The pointy thing in the background is Mount Horrendous. |
![]() |
So down we went. Big-block granite. |
![]() |
It's a substantial drop to get down to the lake. |
![]() |
Maybe half way down? The look and feel of the lake becomes much more of a 'hanging lake'. Or to Susan, an 'infinity pool.' |

The last few blocks before you are lakeside. When we got to lakeside, we all voted to walk around to the peninsula to have lunch. |

The fisherman's trail around the lake is not without it's challenges. |

From the peninsula, you get a great view of the saddle you passed through, as seen just to viewer's right of Susan and Tom. We fished, lolled in the sun on the warm granite, ate lunch, watched the clouds steam overhead, and just generally marveled at our surroundings. |

Then it was time to climb back over the previously-seen saddle. | ![]() |
You might have noticed that the saddle presents a lot of rock to ascend. |

This is a wide spot in the trail. Susan was getting the hang of friction climbing. |

A few moves required hands. Finn provides emotional support. |

And then the long walk back through the brushy valley to the car. Not without a little eye candy along the way. | ![]() |
